Privacy Policy

Good Chocolate ("the app") is operated by Appomatix LLC ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep it simple: we collect only what the app needs to work, we don't run ads, and we don't sell your data.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and display name. You can sign in with email and password, Google, or Apple. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store them ourselves.
Your tasting content. Tastings you log — bar names, ratings, written notes, flavor selections, photos you attach, wishlist items, and optional details like price and where you bought a bar.
Voice notes (Pro). If you record a voice note, the audio is uploaded and transcribed using OpenAI's transcription service, then the text is saved to your tasting. Audio is used only to produce your transcription.
Subscription status. If you subscribe to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We store your subscription status and Stripe customer reference. We never receive or store your card number.
Shopping link activity. When you tap a "Where to Buy" link, we log the tap (which bar, which link, your account ID, and the time) to understand which bars people are interested in and to support our affiliate program.

What we do NOT collect

No location data.
No contacts, browsing history, or advertising identifiers.
No third-party analytics or ad-tech SDKs.
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Community sharing

When you log a tasting you can choose "Share with the community." Shared tastings — your rating, notes, and photo, along with your display name — are visible to other users of the app on that bar's page and in community charts. You can turn sharing off for any tasting, and unshared tastings stay private to your account.

How we use information

To provide the app: syncing your tasting journal, wishlist, and profile across sign-ins.
To operate Pro features: transcribing voice notes and building your Taste Profile from your own tastings.
To process subscriptions through Stripe.
To operate affiliate shopping links and understand which bars are popular.

Service providers

The app is built on Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, cloud functions). Voice notes are transcribed via OpenAI. Payments are processed by Stripe. Chocolate bar catalog searches also query Open Food Facts, a public food database — those searches do not include personal information. Each provider processes data only to provide its service to us.

Affiliate links

As an Amazon Associate, Good Chocolate earns from qualifying purchases. Some "Where to Buy" links are affiliate links; using them never costs you extra and shares no personal information with the retailer beyond the click itself.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is retained while your account is active. You can delete individual tastings and photos in the app at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below and we will complete the deletion within 30 days.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy we will update this page and the date above.
